How this converter works

Pakistan. Pakistan does not use a printed, pre-calculated calendar for religious dates. On the 29th of every month the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee collects moon-sighting evidence and announces whether the new month starts the next day. We record each announcement (date and news source) and count days from it, so for those months the Pakistan answer is exact. For months that have not been announced yet, or older months we have not recorded, the converter gives an estimate (the Umm al-Qura date one day later) and labels it clearly.

Saudi Arabia. The Umm al-Qura calendar is computed in advance by astronomical rules, so it can be converted for any date. Your browser's built-in Umm al-Qura calendar does the calculation; nothing is sent to a server.

Evening events. The Islamic day begins at maghrib (sunset), not at midnight. A child born at 9 pm on a Gregorian date was born on the next Hijri date — tick "after maghrib" for that.

Converting by hand (quick estimate)

A Hijri year has 354 or 355 days, about 11 days shorter than a solar year, so Hijri dates move earlier by about 11 days each Gregorian year. Two rules of thumb:

Use these only for planning; for an exact date use the converter or the month tables.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert an Islamic (Hijri) date to an English date?

Enter the Hijri day, month and year in the Hijri to Gregorian converter above. For Pakistan, months already announced by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee give an exact date; future months show the two possible dates, because a month starts only after the crescent is sighted.

What is 13 Jumada al-Awwal 1448 in English date?

In Pakistan, 13 Jumada al-Awwal 1448 AH is Sunday, 25 October 2026; by Umm al-Qura (Saudi Arabia) it is Saturday, 24 October 2026. It begins at maghrib on the evening before.

What was the Islamic date on 8 May 2026?

In Pakistan, Friday 8 May 2026 was 20 Dhu al-Qa'dah 1447 AH; in Saudi Arabia (Umm al-Qura) it was 21 Dhu al-Qa'dah 1447 AH.

Why does the converter give two answers?

Pakistan begins each Islamic month after local moon sighting, while Saudi Arabia uses the pre-calculated Umm al-Qura calendar. The two often differ by one day, so the converter shows both.

Is an online Hijri converter exact for past dates?

For months whose Ruet-e-Hilal announcement is recorded here (from Rajab 1447 / December 2025 onward) the Pakistan result is exact. For older months it is a ±1 day estimate; check the announcement of that month if you need an exact historical date, for example for a birth certificate or nikah record.

Does the Islamic date change at midnight?

No. The Hijri day starts at maghrib (sunset). Tick "after maghrib" in the converter for an event that happened in the evening; it then gives the next Hijri date.
