About & method

Pakistan

Pakistan's Hijri date follows the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee. When the committee announces the start of a month, we record it and count days from it. Before an announcement is recorded, we show an estimate (Umm al-Qura minus one day), clearly labelled.

Other countries

Saudi Arabia and Gulf states: Umm al-Qura calendar. India and Bangladesh: local moonsighting, which usually matches Pakistan. UK, USA and others: astronomical calculation (Umm al-Qura engine); local mosques may differ.

Timezone

"Today" is computed in the visitor's own timezone (from Cloudflare), or the selected country's main timezone.

Feed

Pakistan feed: /data/today.json.

Pakistan's date follows the official Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announcement. Saudi Arabia and the Gulf follow the Umm al-Qura calendar, so dates can differ by a day. The Islamic day begins at Maghrib; this site changes date at local midnight.
